Introduction

Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world and the political heart of China. Located in the center of Beijing, it is surrounded by important landmarks including the Forbidden City, Great Hall of the People, and National Museum of China.

History

Tiananmen Square was originally built during the Ming Dynasty as a courtyard in front of the Forbidden City. It was later expanded and became the symbol of modern China after the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.

• Monument to the People’s Heroes: A 37.94-meter-tall monument dedicated to martyrs.
• Great Hall of the People: The seat of the National People’s Congress.
