Summer Palace: China's Royal Garden

Introduction

The Summer Palace is the largest imperial garden in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the northwest of Beijing, it was the summer retreat for the Qing Dynasty emperors and is known for its stunning architecture and beautiful landscapes.

History

The Summer Palace was originally built during the Qing Dynasty and was destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. The current complex was rebuilt in the late 19th century after being destroyed during the Second Opium War.

• Longevity Hill: A hill with temples and pavilions offering panoramic views of the lake.
• Kunming Lake: A large artificial lake covering about three-quarters of the palace grounds.
• Seventeen-Arch Bridge: A beautiful stone bridge spanning Kunming Lake.
• Pavilion of the Fragrance of Buddha: A large temple located at the top of Longevity Hill.
• Hall of Benevolence and Longevity: The main hall where the emperor received guests.

• Best Time to Visit: Spring (April-May) when flowers are in bloom.
• Boat Ride: Take a boat ride on Kunming Lake for a different perspective.
• Combine with Yuanmingyuan: The Summer Palace is close to Yuanmingyuan.
