Water Cube: Beijing National Aquatics Center

Introduction

The Water Cube, officially known as the Beijing National Aquatics Center, is one of Beijing’s most iconic buildings. Built for the 2008 Olympic Games, it served as the venue for swimming, diving, and synchronized swimming events.

History

Construction of the Water Cube began in 2003 and was completed in 2008. It was designed by PTW Architects from Australia and Arup. The building gets its name from its unique exterior made of ETFE cushions that resemble bubbles.
