Introduction

The Temple of Heaven is one of China’s most famous ancient temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the southern part of Beijing, it was used by emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties to worship heaven and pray for good harvests.

History

The Temple of Heaven was built during the Ming Dynasty and completed in 1420. It was expanded during the Qing Dynasty and has been well-preserved over the centuries. It is known for its unique architectural style and symbolism.

• Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests: The most iconic building with its blue roof and circular shape.
• Imperial Vault of Heaven: A smaller circular building used to store ceremonial objects.
• Circle Mound Altar: A three-tiered circular altar where emperors offered sacrifices.
• Long Corridor: A covered walkway connecting the main buildings.
• Park Area: Beautiful gardens and trees surrounding the temple complex.
